{ Places to visit in Melbourne (Part I - Newbie) }

September 14, 2011 11:46 PM | category: Places | permalink

Behold, a list of places that I visited or am planing to visit in the future. Sadly, it doesn't include Machu Pichu or Firenze ( maybe someday it will InshaAllah ). However, get ready to be amazed as I share the places available within Victoria. Cheers.

INNER CITY:

Flinders Street / Federation Square:

The most common meeting point (aside from Melbourne Central), everybody whos anybody in Melbourne should know this place. Trains usually start its route at the station here. Next to it is the Federation Square, where people can sit around and enjoy the frequent events, exhibitions and performace that are held there. It is located along the Yarra River ... lots of nice places are located along the river.

Flinders street

Street Art Alley:

Located at various places but the longest alley I knew so far is the one on Flinders street, a few steps away from Nando's right through Parliament. My first visit: 19th June 2011.

Street Art

Eureka Skydeck:

Located right opposite to the Flinders Street Station. It's the tallest building within the area, you can't miss it. Offers the highest viewpoint in the southern hemisphere for a price. You also get to travel on one of the fastest elevator in the world, a "ride" between 88 floors takes just 37 seconds. My first visit: 30th March 2011.

Eureka tower

Birrarung Marr Park / Federation Bells:

It's a park and there's a group of bells which makes some sounds during specific times of the day. Also, sometimes, there's this ferris wheel. My first time listening to the chimes: 14th September 2011.

Federation Bells

Carlton Garden:

Victorian era garden and landscapes. My first visit: 04th September 2011.

Carlton Garden

SUBURBS:

Melbourne Zoo:

One of those places where they showcase animals. My First visit: 26th April 2011.

{ May, my birthday month }

May 25, 2011 07:52 PM | category: Personal | permalink

It have been nearly 4 months since I first land my feet here in Australia. It seriously have been a roller coaster ride and I have experienced what is known as culture shock. Though this had taken the best from me before, I have now adapted to this way of living. It's not that bad actually. However this doesn't mean that I don't miss everything back in Brunei. But enough about missing things, let's talk about what is 'up' right now.

I never really taked about it, so let's rant. It was really hectic during the day of my flight, I really didn't have the chance to say goodbye to everyone properly. We had some trouble during check in hence took away most of our time in the airport. I also forgoten to apologise regarding my abscence especially towards my friends who took the time to come and send me off. Everything was so surreal from the moment I step in the plane, arriving in Brisbane and finally Melbourne. It was as if, I'm going to go back to Brunei the next day. Then it strucked me, an illness called 'home', home sick. It really took quite a while to get rid of that feeling, I'm glad I have met a new family here in Melbourne. And indeed, Melbourne have open up doors. I don't know what door, it's just that I have a picture here of me opening a door. LOL. It does make me cherish a lot of things, family and friends back home.

{ You Will Fail ! }

April 11, 2011 11:28 PM | category: Personal | permalink

Those exact words were, believe it or not, what had motivated me to do well in my final year in poly. Well the thing is that I think I'm putting little effort here to go through my degree. Yes, some called it procrastinating, the Bruneians called it penyakit M. What bothers me is the fact that I might actually fail this time. So here I am, trying to figure out my roots. What was the reason for me to come all the way to Melbourne ? The so-called ideal plan was to one day become a lecturer so that I can escape the office-life I started to hate. Now, I don't think it's such a good idea. I'm not sure if it's because I'm homesick or lazy or something else. Face it, I feel lonely here, I'm missing my friends and family back home. How can I just go home and quit when the same people I'm missing are the ones that push me to strive forward. Here I am torn, unmotivated and sad. I wish I have my study mates from poly here with me so that they can push me to work hard for you all know I'm a very very lazy guy. Yes, I used to get distinctions and I am truly blessed. Oh, Syukur Alhamdulillah with what I have. I wonder if anybody else feels the same way as I'm feeling. I'm sure there's a lot.
